Denise Lach pratique avec passion l‘écriture et la calligraphie depuis trente ans. Elle a enseigné la sérigraphie et la conception scripturale à l‘Ecole de Design de Bâle en Suisse.
Les possibilités ludiques ainsi que l’aspect textural de l’écriture font partie des éléments majeurs de sa démarche. Elle expose et enseigne régulièrement en France et à l‘étranger.
L’évolution de son travail l’a conduit vers l’approfondissement d’une recherche texturale et expérimentale de l’écriture. Elle aborde le potentiel ludique et expérimental de l’écriture avec curiosité et gourmandise.
Elle n‘illustre pas les textes. Elle y cherche l‘émergence d‘une émotion, d‘une couleur, d‘une parole qu‘elle traduit avec son vocabulaire graphique. Le travail sur de multiples supports lui permet d‘évoluer dans l‘expérimentation et de partager ses compétences avec d‘autres artistes.
J’ai quitté les chemins de la calligraphie soignée et bien lisible. Mais je reste tributaire de sa discipline et de sa rigueur. L’opportunité des lieux d’échanges, et l’émulation en milieu de formation artistique ont considérablement stimulé ma curiosité. Le tissage des mots et les textures qui en émanent me fascinent. Ce jeux inépuisable d’écriture sur les supports les plus variés permet d’élargir le vocabulaire graphique et d’enrichir l’expression personnelle.
Denise Lach befasst sich seit 30 Jahren mit Schrift und Kalligrafie. An der Schule für Gestaltung Basel unterrichtete sie 17 Jahre lang Schriftgestaltung und Siebdruck.
Seit vielen Jahren leitet sie Schriftkurse und Workshops in Frankreich und im Ausland.
Die stete Weiterentwicklung ihres kalligrafischen Könnens führte sie in ein vertieftes, experimentelles, spielerisches und texturhaftes Schreiben. Denise Lach illustriert nicht Texte sondern spürt vielmehr einer Emotion, einem Wort, einer Farbe nach, die sie dann in ihre eigenständige, grafische Sprache umsetzt. Das Arbeiten auf verschiedenen Trägern ermöglicht ihr eine Weiterentwicklung im Experiment sowie einen Austausch ihrer Kompetenzen mit anderen Künstlern.
Ich habe den Weg der traditionellen, gut lesbaren Kalligrafie verlassen, bleibe aber ihrem Anspruch und ihrer Disziplin verpflichtet. Die Austauschmöglichkeiten, das Wetteifern in der Gestaltungs- und Kunstausbildungsebene, haben meine Neugier geweckt und mich beflügelt und angespornt. Das Weben und Verflechten von Worten zu Texturen fasziniert mich. Dieses unerschöpfliche Spiel mit der Schrift auf unterschiedlichsten Trägern ermöglicht die Erweiterung des grafischen Vokabulars sowie die Bereicherung des persönlichen Ausdrucks.
Denise Lach has been passionately involved in calligraphy and conceptual writing for the past thirty years.She teaches lettering design and screen printing at the Basel School of Design and regularly leads calligraphy courses and workshops in France and abroad, where she also exhibits her work.
As her technique evolved, she increasingly focused her research on the diversity of play opportunities linked with textural and experimental writing, which she always set great store by.
She does not illustrate texts, but searches them for the emotion, the colour, the word that she'll be able to translate into her graphic language. Working on a variety of media enables her to experiment with several techniques and share her skills with other artists.
I have left the paths of neat and easily readable calligraphy. But I have retained its discipline and precision.
I have had many opportunities for exchange in various places, and have always found the emulation and competitiveness in artistic training centres most stimulating.
I am fascinated with the weaving of words and the resulting structures. The never-ending play of writing on a variety of media broadens the graphic vocabulary and stimulates self-expression and creativity.
